Project Freedom is an excellent soul-jazz outing by the organist Joey DeFrancesco and his new band The People which includes Dan Wilson on guitar, Troy Roberts on tenor saxophone, and Jason Brown on drums. The playing and group interaction is superb. The standout tracks are covers of Lift Every Voice and Sing and A Change Is Gonna Come but all the performances are excellent. One of the best jazz recordings of 2017. by Thomas Cetrino
