Who's Who? features guitarist John Scofield (who was then 27) searching for his own sound. Four of the selections have Scofield backed by a light funky quartet, while two other pieces feature him with three notable jazzmen: saxophonist Dave Liebman, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Billy Hart. The problem with this date is that Scofield is a much stronger guitarist than he is a composer, and none of his complex melodies are all that memorable. This set is recommended mostly for John Scofield completists; other listeners are advised to pick up his more recent releases instead. by Scott Yanow
